Suits are the five classes that divide the society of the world of Misère. Suits are hereditary, and members of a suit are given a distinct mark somewhere in their body, with the exception of Jokers.

Swords are one of the five suits in the world of Misère. As their name suggest, they're easily identifiable by their suit mark, which is shaped like a sword. However, despite their name, they seem to be a suit skilled in magic and magical abilities, as opposed to physical combat.

Although Jokers are officially recognized as the fifth suit, some people still refer to them as suitless. They are different from the rest of the suits in many aspects; most importantly that they are unable to use magic and have no suit mark. However, all of them posses white hair through their entire life.
Furthermore, while two jokers may only give birth to another joker, they can be born from any other suit, making them the only suit that doesn't necessarily inherit their parents' suit. The birth of jokers has been theorized to be related to inbreeding between suits, but this hasn't been confirmed.
Due to their lack of magic ability and the mysteries surrounding their origins, jokers are a marginized group. Many countries still uphold anti-Joker laws, and even in countries where they have the same rights as other suits, they are still margilized.
